MICHAEL COOPER

Principal / Surveyor

Michael Cooper is a seasoned professional in the field of surveying, known for his expertise and leadership as the President of ASA Engineering & Surveying. Coop’s journey in this industry began in 1995 when he joined ASA Engineering & Surveying, bringing with him a solid educational background.  Coop earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Valdosta State University, providing him with a strong foundation in financial management and business principles. Additionally, he obtained a Surveying Certificate from Middle Georgia College, which equipped him with the technical skills necessary for the surveying aspect of his career. Coop’s dedication to his profession is evident through his status as a Licensed Surveyor, demonstrating his commitment to upholding industry standards and regulations. In 2013, Coop took a significant step in his career by purchasing ASA Engineering & Surveying, LLC, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit and ambition. As the President of the company, he has been instrumental in its growth and success, leveraging his over 30 years of experience in the field. Coop’s expertise spans various areas within surveying, including ALTA surveys, boundary surveys, and topographic surveys. His proficiency in these domains has earned him a reputation for delivering high-quality and reliable services to clients. Beyond his professional endeavors, Coop enjoys pursuing his hobbies and spending time with loved ones. He has a passion for fishing, finding solace and joy in the tranquility of the outdoors. Additionally, he appreciates the arts and music, regularly attending concerts to unwind and enjoy live performances.

ALAN HIDY

Principal / Project Engineer / CAD Manager / UAV Department Head

Alan Hidy serves as a principal at ASA Engineering & Surveying, LLC, where he holds the position of Project Engineer and CAD Manager in Valdosta, Georgia. Joining ASA in February 2005 then becoming a partner in May 2015, Alan has played a pivotal role in establishing the firm as a leading entity in South Georgia. Alan’s journey into Civil Engineering commenced during his education in drafting and design at North Florida Community College, where he embarked on his career at a Civil firm in Tallahassee, Florida. His tenure in Florida fostered his passion for Civil Design, setting him on a path towards obtaining his Professional Engineering license. With over 21 years of experience in design and project management, Alan brings invaluable expertise to ASA, specializing in site design and infrastructure planning. He actively participates in all phases of project design and construction document preparation. Alan, along with his wife Amelia and son Glenn, proudly call Lowndes County home and actively engage in community initiatives.

JADEN DEAN

Principal / Project Engineer

Jaden Dean joined ASA in January 2013, bringing with him a wealth of experience and expertise in civil engineering. A Valdosta native, he graduated from Southern Polytechnic State University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil/Construction Engineering. Prior to joining ASA, Jaden worked at Standard Contractors, where he served as a project manager and project estimator, gaining valuable experience in general construction, estimating, and project planning for commercial projects.  Since joining ASA, Jaden’s contributions have been instrumental in serving both new and existing clients. His knowledge and skills in civil engineering encompass various areas including civil site design, light structural design, foundation design, erosion control, environmental engineering, hydraulic analysis, and permit management.  In recognition of his exceptional performance and dedication, Jaden became a partner in ASA in May 2015, further solidifying his role within the company. Outside of work, Jaden enjoys spending time with his family, which includes his wife, two children, and three dogs. He also has a variety of interests, including classic cars, golf, hunting, and fishing. These interests complement his professional life, providing a well-rounded perspective and contributing to his success both in and out of the office.

JASON SCARPATE

Senior Engineer

Jason Scarpate is a distinguished Professional Engineer and an integral member of ASA Engineering & Surveying since 2019.  A graduate from the University of Mississippi, Jason holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, laying the foundation for his remarkable journey in the field.  Jason’s professional experience includes the role of Assistant Director of Utilities for the City of Valdosta, where he served with distinction for five years. In this capacity, Jason played a pivotal role in the planning, design, and implementation of critical infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the city’s water and wastewater systems. Upon joining ASA Engineering & Surveying, Jason seamlessly transitioned into his role as a Senior Engineer, where his expertise continues to shine. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for innovation, Jason spearheads projects that span the spectrum of civil engineering, from site development to municipal infrastructure.  Outside of his professional pursuits, Jason finds joy and fulfillment in the simple pleasures of life. An avid motorcyclist, he embraces the freedom of the open road, navigating scenic routes and embarking on exhilarating adventures.

JERRY PALMER

Senior Designer

Jerry Palmer is an esteemed member of the ASA Engineering and Surveying, LLC team, serving as a Senior Designer since May of 2016. With a rich background in surveying and civil engineering, Jerry brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role within the firm. Jerry’s journey in the field of surveying began with his education at Middle Georgia College, where he earned his surveying certificate. This foundational education equipped him with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in his career. With 34 years of experience in surveying and civil engineering, Jerry is a seasoned professional who has honed his craft over the years. A significant portion of Palmer’s career was dedicated to serving in a local government’s Engineering Department for 19 years. During this time, he played a crucial role in plan review and compliance coordination, ensuring that projects adhered to municipal regulations and standards. This experience has provided him with a deep understanding of regulatory requirements and the intricacies of project management within a government context. Since joining ASA Jerry has been actively involved in various aspects of project design and construction document preparation. Beyond his professional achievements, Jerry is a proud father of two daughters and a long-term resident of Valdosta. He holds a deep appreciation for his Native American heritage, which is an integral part of his identity.

BLAKE MAPLES

Survey Technician

Blake Maples hails from Lake Park, Georgia, where he was born, raised, and continues to reside. A proud graduate of Lowndes High School, Blake joined the firm shortly after graduating as our Survey Technician in 2022. In his role as a Survey Technician, Blake’s responsibilities extend far beyond mere job duties; they encompass a dedication to precision and a commitment to integrity. Whether traversing residential neighborhoods or charting commercial properties in Florida and Georgia, Blake approaches each survey with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and reliability in every endeavor. When Blake is not traveling throughout the Southeast for work, he often retreats to the ponds dotting his hometown and often spends cherished moments with his grandfather on the family farm. Beyond his love for fishing and family, Blake’s heart finds its truest joy in the company of his fiancée, Elissa, and their beloved Boykin Spaniel, Marley.

HOUSTON MAPLES

Survey Technician

Houston Maples grew up in Lake Park, Georgia, where he developed a strong sense of community and a passion for learning. He attended Valdosta High School, where he excelled academically and participated in various extracurricular activities. After graduating, Houston pursued higher education at Valdosta State University, where he further honed his skills and interests.  Following his education, Houston embarked on a professional journey that reflects his commitment to his community and his values. His career has been marked by dedication and a desire to make a positive impact.  Houston is married to Taylor, and together they have two children, Palmer and Mason. Family plays a central role in his life, and he cherishes the time spent with them, often engaging in outdoor activities and community events.

MADISON TROTTER

Office Manager

Madison’s journey is a testament to her diverse experiences, expertise, and unwavering dedication to her professional and personal pursuits. Born in Germany during her father’s service in the United States Air Force and raised in Bradenton, Florida, Madison’s upbringing imbued her with a rich cultural background and a strong sense of community.  Madison’s academic achievements underscore her commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth. She earned her bachelor’s degree in criminology from the University of South Florida, where she cultivated a deep understanding of societal dynamics and justice systems. Furthering her education, Madison obtained a paralegal degree from Liberty University, honing her legal expertise and analytical skills. In addition to her academic accomplishments and after her move to Hahira in 2018, Madison holds a real estate license in the State of Georgia and is a registered Notary Public, reflecting her diverse skill set and commitment to professional excellence. With over 15 years of experience in office management and more than 20 years in customer service, Madison brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her role as Office Manager at ASA Engineering & Surveying, LLC. Her responsibilities encompass a wide range of functions, including administrative duties, human resources management, facilities management, financial management, information management, leadership, team management, and communication and coordination. Madison’s contributions are integral to the success and efficiency of ASA. Her organizational skills, attention to detail, and leadership abilities ensure the smooth operation of the office and facilitate effective collaboration among team members. Outside of her professional endeavors, Madison’s role as a mother to her daughter, Trinity, holds special significance. She devotes her free time to coaching Trinity’s volleyball team, visiting family in Florida, and spending time with friends.
